This nagaya is divided into 4 units,
and all 4 tenants share the well and cooking place (next to well).
Very energy/resource efficient planning,
and requires good community relations to function properly.

Small fires in a hibachi cooked the food,
and pretty much everything is made of clay and plant material.
The elevated floor can be lifted to store bulky pots and bowls.
It is the edge between indoor (private) and outdoor (public) space.
This tenant is a candy vendor and the left side of the picture is a display of merchandise.
Japanese are masters at small intensive spaces.

Green Curtain グリーンカーテン
Very common in Tokyo,
from verandas, to shops with big windows, to schools and government buildings.
Usually, people grow "goya" (bitter gourd) and struggle to eat the harvest.
I've also seen ornamental morning glory,
a plant that almost all Japanese have probably grown in school.
I heard that it became particularly popular after the Fukushima Nuclear accident.
Almost all windows in Japan are single pane,
and probably are responsible for a significant amount of energy waste.

有名なグリーン建築ですが、
周りを見ると緑が見つかりません。
自然なくては人間も存在できません。
私たちはホストを殺してしまう、
自滅的パラサイトとなってしまったのです。
でも忙しくて気付く余裕がないんだよね。
